Tell me about you music? "It's nothing more complicated than something that makes me happy, If others like that's even better, any money or attention is just a bonus. It's the only reason I can think of for getting into an industry where so many aspects are out of your control."
Where were you born and raised? "I was born in Brisbane Australia, which is a really great place to live sun, beaches, rainforest and all that sort of thing, I've been all over eastern Australia from Cairns to Sydney."
How did you get into music? "My earliest musical adventures that I can remember having are recording my mothers piano to tape during primary school, a few high school bands, then started a band with my brother and a few other guys in my late teens. That band toured for many playing clubs & bars; five nights a week, five brackets a night, playing a mix of our own stuff and covers, it's a fun but not that financially rewarding. The we moved to Sydney to crack the "Big Time", got halfway there and then fell apart as bands often do, funny that."
Where have you performed lately? "Not much lately, once a month or so, I only really play live when one of the artists that I'm working with want to do a showcase or test songs in front of real punters"
What is your favourite musical memory? "oh, favorite that's a hard one there's been so many, there of course, would be all things you expect, like the thrill of my first finished song, or the first time I looked down at a gig and someone I didn't know was singing along with our songs or that day when your driving around an your song comes on the radio for the first time, things like that do stick in your head and make you want for more, but reality, it's also not the ones you'd think or even know about, little moments of serendipity where the right music, the right sound and the right people just come together, gel and magic happens"
What do you think is distinct about your style? "I don't even know that I have one, I aim to produce music that touches people, lyrics with a message and if I'm lucky a catchy chorus, that you can sing along with in best pop style."
What is it about music that you like the most? "Oh wow, I truly enjoy the creation aspect, that first rush of "that sounds great or where did that come from" it's so addictive no matter whether it's writing solo, with collaborators or working as a producer, its so cool"
What is your best overall quality? "Tenacious and almost infinite patience, If I do believe in a project or someone then I'm in it for the long haul"
What is your worst overall quality? "Arty and easily distracted, I sometimes get upset at myself for being so stylistically fractured and lacking in one big direction, But when I stop and think about it we all like to listen to different styles of music, I'm just in a privileged position where I can create more of what I like to hear"
What is your main goal in music? "Oh, mmm, I don't know I suppose my goal would be to write a song or two that touched people's lives & and left them feeling or thinking something more, do you remember those songs when you were a kid that seemed so exciting, so moving, so close to the truth, the song said exactly what was going on in your life. I would love to be the guy that said what you were thinking before you even knew what it was yourself"
What are your goals in life? "To be remembered as positively as possible by the people that are close, everything else is just a bonus"
If you had one thing to say about music, what would it be? "Wow gee, no pressure, I suppose its easy to focus on how much work, how much time or even how much money you've spent, when the really important thing is; who you touched. For me that important part of song writing is did I "say" anything that affected or resonated with somebody's life. In the studio it's so easy for me to get caught up in microphones, wires and all the fun that is recording that and lose sight of the prize. "
"It's just so easy to forget that making somebody sing, dance, laugh or cry is the aim, to take the listener on a journey to a place of my imagination and then have them realizes that they have been there before, and if I've done well that the words and feelings could even be there own, that is a result worth trying for every single time"
So what's coming up in the future? "I'm currently writing solo and with quite a few different people, as well as playing keys in a few bands now and then, the producer/engineer thing is taking up a bit more of my time as well."
